The experiences that shape how students learn, grow, and pursue their interests are powerful. When students share those stories, they can inspire others, build confidence, and strengthen connections within the K12 community.

That’s why we’re excited to announce the launch of the 2026 K12 Reel Me video competition—a creative opportunity for students currently enrolled in a K12-powered school to share their personal “My K12 Why.” In a short video, students can reflect on what inspires them and why their K12-powered learning experience works for them.

Why Sharing Their Story Matters

Parents know each child's learning journey is unique. Things that motivate one student-whether it's the flexibility to pursue a passion, supportive teachers, or the ability to learn in a comfortable environment-can make a lasting difference.

When students share those experiences, they do more than tell their own stories. They show others new possibilities and help them feel connected to a community of learners who may be navigating similar paths. Storytelling also helps students build important skills. Reflecting on their experiences, organizing their thoughts, and expressing them creatively can strengthen confidence and communication, which are skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Introducing the 2026 K12 Reel Me Video Competition

K12 Reel Me invites K12-powered students to create a 30- to 60-second video sharing their “My K12 Why”—why K12 works for them.

Videos should be genuine and heartfelt, but students can tell their stories in any creative way they choose—through animation, music, visuals, storytelling, or other unique ideas. It’s all about sharing a story in a way that feels authentic.

For families, this can be a fun opportunity to support your child as they brainstorm ideas and bring their creativity to life.

The Theme: My K12 Why

This year’s theme invites students to reflect on what makes their learning experience meaningful.

A student’s K12 Why might be about:

  • The flexibility to pursue passions or hobbies
  • Learning in an environment where they feel confident
  • Working toward future goals
  • Discovering new interests
  • Feeling supported by teachers, family, and their learning community

Every story is different—and that’s what makes them powerful.
